Overview & what to expect

Light is selectively absorbed by melanin, the pigment in the hair follicle. The light energy heats the pigment and effectively destroys the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding cells.

The laser or Intense Pulsed Light is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released, which targets many follicles simultaneously. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area of skin and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated.

The skin may be red immediately after treatment and the hair follicles may be swollen and bumpy, but this usually subsides within a few hours. Adverse reactions are rare but may include a small blister or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin.

Treatment sensation varies but is often described as “a flick of an elastic band”. Most clients describe the discomfort as moderate and tolerable, thanks to the Dynamic Reflex Technology.

Most people are suitable for treatment. However, grey / white hair is not recommended for treatment as the hair has no pigment and tanned individuals cannot be treated, due to the increased amount of melanin present in the skin.

Only hair that is actively growing is affected, therefore multiple treatments are needed. Treatment is conducted every 4 – 8 weeks, depending on the area treated, until a satisfactory result is seen. The required number of treatments varies, but typically 6 or more treatments are needed for optimum results.

Overview & what to expect

Pulses of light are emitted to target skin discoloration and create a more youthful complexion. The light energy stimulates the fibroblast cells, leading to an increased production of new collagen and elastin. This improves the texture of the skin, evening out lumps and bumps whilst reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

The treatment can be mildly uncomfortable but is 100% tolerable. Sensations vary but most people describe it as a very quick hot pinprick. The area treated will most likely become red immediately after treatment, but this disappears after a couple of hours. Like all IPL treatments there is the very rare risk of a small blister forming.

Results can be seen after just a few treatments. However, a minimum of 3 and up to 6 sessions are recommended depending on your skin concern.

Treatments are carried out every 4 to 6 weeks and yearly top up sessions are performed as required.

Most people are suitable for treatment. Only tanned and darker skinned individuals cannot be treated for IPL due to the amount of melanin present in the skin.

Skin Rejuvenation

Skin rejuvenation is the term used for a group of treatments performed using Intense Pulsed light. It works by heating up the skin and causes very mild, reversable thermal damage to the epidermis (top layer of the skin). The skin reacts to the heat and repairs itself by increasing the rate of collagen and elastin produced deep within the dermis (the layer below the epidermis). This increases the skins elasticity and strength making the skin appear smoother, softer and healthier.

Overall, skin rejuvenation treatment brightens the skin, evens out any lumps and bumps, reduces the appearance of wrinkles and improves the health of the skin for a hydrated, fresh and youthful appearance.

The beauty of IPL skin rejuvenation is that the results are outstanding, with little to no downtime required and a quick recovery time of 24-48 hours after each session.

Acne

Acne is a common disorder of the sebaceous glands that affects 95% of teenagers and adults to some extent over the course of their lifetime. These small glands are found near the surface of your skin and are attached to hair follicles. They work to keep the hairs lubricated to prevent them from drying out by producing the oily substance, sebum. The sebaceous glands can produce too much sebum, and this is what causes oily skin and acne. The excess sebum mixed with dead skin cells blocks the hair follicle causing blackheads or whiteheads depending on how close it is to the skins surface.

Overview & what to expect

The light emitted directly targets the overactive sebaceous glands and reduces the severity of the sebum created. It destroys the P. Acnes bacteria, tightens pores and stimulates collagen production which improves the texture of the skin, reduces scarring (to some extent) and reduces the appearance of redness that can be caused by acne.

The treatment is mildly uncomfortable, and the procedure is quite quick. Sensations vary but most people describe it as a very quick hot pinprick. The area treated will most likely become red immediately after treatment, but this disappears after a couple of hours. Like all IPL treatments there is the very rare risk of a small blister forming.

The number of sessions required vary from client to client and depends on many factors. Results can be seen after a few treatments but a minimum of 4 and up to 8 sessions at 4-week intervals delivers the best result.

Almost anyone can be treated apart from tanned individuals and if you are pregnant or if you are taking Roaccutane for acne. You will have to be off the medication for a minimum of 6 months before undergoing treatment. If you are suffering from low self-esteem and confidence due to acne and are tired of taking antibiotics orally or using topical antibiotic creams, then this treatment is for you!

Overview & what to expect

IPL controls Rosacea. The red facial veins present absorb the emitted light which heats them up and causes damage. This damage encourages the body to reabsorb them, improving the redness and appearance. The light also stimulates collagen fibres, remodelling them and increases the production, which then improves the elasticity of the skin and delays the development of more thread veins.

The treatment is mildly uncomfortable, and the procedure is quite quick. Sensations vary but most people describe it as a very quick hot pinprick. The area treated will become redder immediately after treatment and can last for up to 24 hours post treatment.

The number of sessions required vary from client to client and depends on many factors. Results can be seen after a few treatments but a minimum of 3 and up to 12 sessions at 4-week intervals deliver the best result.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a common, long-term, chronic inflammatory skin condition that appears on the skin as a red rash across the nose and the cheeks as a butterfly effect. Facial thread veins are present with Rosacea and dilate to certain stimuli, causing the red appearance. The cause of this skin condition is unknown but it flares up with certain lifestyle factors such as sun exposure, alcohol and spicy foods.

Vascular Lesions

There are several vascular lesions that can be treated with IPL:

Telangiectasia (thread veins)

Are small, dilated blood vessels that are commonly seen on the face especially around the cheeks, nose and the legs with a web-shaped appearance. They are completely harmless and are easily removed with IPL light, with only one of two sessions needed depending on the size at 4 -week intervals. Thread veins are usually hereditary and appear in your 40’s-60’s. They can also be related to lifestyle habits such as sun-damage, smoking and alcohol intake.

Campbell de Morgan Spots

Are small, red, raised spots. The cause of them is unknown but tend to increase in number with age. They are easily removed with IPL after 1-2 sessions at 4-week intervals.

Spider Naevi

Is a small mark on the skin that has a red centre with feeding capillary legs. This is what gave them its name as it looks like a spider. They are commonly found on the neck, chest, face, arms and hands. They usually disappear after 1-2 laser sessions at 4-week intervals.

Port Wine Stain

A Port Wine Stain appears on the skin as a large, flat patch of pink, red or purple skin. It is a vascular birthmark caused by abnormal development of blood vessels. At birth the surface of the port wine is flat but overtime it can thicken and darken. They can occur anywhere on the body. A course of 6-12 treatments is required but please note that birthmarks can reappear, and complete clearance is not 100% guaranteed.

Overview & what to expect

Light energy is applied to the skin where it is readily absorbed by blood vessels, heating them up to a point where they are destroyed. Following treatment, the vessels clear very quickly as they are reabsorbed by the body leaving little to no trace of them.

The treatment is mildly uncomfortable, and the procedure is quite quick. Sensations vary but most people describe it as a very quick hot pinprick. After treatment the area may feel warm for several hours but can be cooled with a cold compress. Delicate areas such as the cheeks may feel swollen for a maximum of 48 hours and there is a very rare chance a small blister can form.

Most people are suitable for treatment apart from tanned individuals. It is best suited for those who have fair skin.

Most small lesions disappear after one session. Larger lesions may take 3 to 5 treatments, spaced every 4 to 6 weeks for the best result.

Prices

  • From £70 per session.

Overview & what to expect

Pulses of light are released and are readily absorbed by the high concentration of melanin found within the pigmented lesions. This absorption heats the melanin causing the destruction of the melanin-rich-cells, tiggering the body’s natural healing process and the growth of healthy new skin tissue.

The treatment is mildly uncomfortable, and the procedure is quite quick. Sensations vary but most people describe it as a very quick hot pinprick. The surrounding skin to the area may immediately become red after treatment and this usually disappears within several hours to a few days. On a very rare occasion can a small blister form or the skin may become temporarily darker or lighter.

The number of sessions required depends on the size and type of pigmentated lesion. Typically, a minimum of 3 and up to 6 sessions are recommended between 4 to 6 week intervals for optimum result. Top-up sessions may also be required one or twice a year.

Most people are suited to treatment apart from very dark skinned or tanned individuals due to the amount of pigment present in the skin. Large, dark, mottled or raised pigmentation cannot be treated and you may need to be checked by a dermatologist. Moles also cannot be treated.

Prices

  • From £70 per session.

Pigmentation Removal

Skin pigmentation such as freckles, sun spots and age spots that are caused by sun damage, can successfully be removed with IPL. Pigmentation can also be hereditary and triggered by age and hormones. Our skin gets its colour from the pigment melanin which is made by our melanocyte cells. The cause of pigmentated areas is simply an overproduction of melanin as a way of the skin protecting itself from damage. Pigmentation can develop on the face, chest, shoulders, arms and hands. Using the medical grade and multiple award-winning Lumina, the removal of pigmentation is quick and effective, revealing balanced, flawless and radiant skin.
